2015 Fall Tournament – Sept. 19 & 20- Registration Open

EVANSTON FALL TENNIS TOURNAMENT

  • Event Selection

  • ELIGIBILITY:

This is an open tournament. However, all participants must be members of the Evanston Community Tennis Association. If you have paid membership prior this year through participation in an earlier event or joining online, you are covered for 2015. Information about the ECTA can be found on our website.

Intermediate level events: These events are intended to provide players of mid-level ability the opportunity to compete against their peers rather than in the open events. Players with NTRP ratings higher than 3.5 or similar abilities are ineligible for these events. In terms of local leagues rated A, B, and C, the intermediate events are limited to players at levels B and C. The definition of a 3.5 player can be found on the USTA website.

Open-level events: These events are for any participant, up to and including a USTA level of 5.0. Club Pros and more advanced level players may be eligible at the discretion of the Tournament Directors.

ENTRY DEADLINE: All entry forms and fees must be received no later than Tuesday, Sept. 15th.

    POSTING OF EVENTS AND DRAWS:
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to cancel or combine events with insufficient entrants. (If cancellation leaves an entrant without any event in the tournament, that entrant’s fee will be refunded.) The tournament events and draws will be posted on site, the day of the event.

    MATCH FORMAT:
Saturday’s matches will be a modified round robin format. Winners from each group will proceed to single elimination play on Sunday. COMPLETE DETAILS ON FORMAT ARE BELOW ON THIS FORM.

    MATCH RULES:
ITF rules of tennis govern all tournament matches. Comments in USTA’s “Friend at Court” also are applicable. The Code for unofficiated matches governs all tournament matches except those played with chair umpires. The ITF rules and the Code are in “Friend at Court” on the USTA website at usta.com/Improve-Your-Game/Rules; click on Tennis Rules & Regulations in the middle of the page.

    DISPUTE RESOLUTION:
Any dispute should be settled by the players in accordance with the tournament’s Match Rules or by directing an inquiry promptly to the Tournament Referee(s).

    DEFAULTS:
Any entrant may be defaulted for the following: failure to appear for a scheduled match; inability to complete a match in progress due to injury, illness, or personal emergency; failure to maintain the tournament schedule, including scheduled semi-final or championship matches; and any other grounds specified under the tournament’s Match Rules. The Tournament Director has discretion to default a single player/team or both players/teams whose match is not completed by the deadline. All potential default situations must be ruled on by Tournament Director before they are effective.

    POSTING OF RESULTS:
Match results will be posted at www.evanstontennis.org. Please Note that all final communications and information will be posted on the ECTA website and/or through our CONSTANT CONTACT GENERAL e-mail BLAST. Please inquire with the Tournament Directors FIRST if you have questions.

  • A player may ENTER ONLY TWO EVENTS, one being singles, the other a doubles. In general, singles play will be slated for the morning and doubles play in the afternoon.

Entry into a particular draw is on a first come, first serve basis. At the discretion of the ECTA tournament directors, a particular event may be “capped” if there are enough entrants (perhaps up to 20 or 24 players). Likewise, if there are not enough players for a particular draw, or an “odd” number exists that cannot fill a group with three or more players, these individuals will be denied entry to this draw. (If no other draw is open or feasible for this player’s talent level, a refund of entry fees will be granted.)

In the round robin format, players will be randomly placed into a Group by “pulling a name out of a hat.” At the discretion of the ECTA Tournament directors, a particular draw may have “top-seeded players” placed in a group so that the seeds are “spread out.” (This would be done to preclude the unlikely, but possible, scenario of having the top seeds randomly placed in the same round robin group.)

A particular Group in a draw may have three players. For instance, the men’s open singles might have 23 total entrants. This draw would be comprised of five Groups of 4 and one Group of 3, determined by random selection. If, for instance, there were only 22 entrants, the last two to enter would be denied participation, or asked to join another draw. This would then allow for a draw of 20 players, or five Groups of 4. (If not able to enter any event, a refund will be granted.)

If a particular draw has an odd number of groups, for instance three groups or five groups, there will be an odd number of players advancing to the single elimination round. Placement for a “bye” will go to the top 2, or perhaps 4 players, (depending on number of entrants) emerging from the round robin matches. This is determined by those with the best ‘won-lost” record in games during the round robin, followed by head-head match-ups. The rest of the players will be randomly placed in the single elimination Sunday draw.

An ideal scenario for demonstration might be a draw with 16 players. There would be four groups of 4 players each. In Group A, players 1,2,3,4 would each play a match against the others in Group A. In Group B, players 5,6,7,8 would each play the others in their group. Likewise with Groups C and D.

The top two from each group advance to the next day. There, the top player from Group A plays the number two from Group D. The number two player from Group A plays the number one from Group D, etc. (Group B winners play Group C winners.) These would be in a regular, single elimination draw on Sunday.

  • The event will be held over two days with the Saturday matches comprised of a round robin format and winners advancing to regular single elimination play on Sunday.

For each particular DRAW players are assigned to a group consisting of 4 contestants. Each player will play the others in their particular group in an 8-game, no ad, pro-set. The top two winners from each group will advance to a single elimination draw on the next day where matches are 10-game, no ad pro-sets. A player is guaranteed at least three matches for each draw entered.

  • The entry fees are, per person: $30.00 for current 2015 member of ECTA, (whether for one or two events). $25.00 additional for 2015 ECTA yearly membership if not yet paid. Current membership status may be confirmed with the Treasurer of ECTA at charlesfriedl@aol.com or 847-328-2248. Make checks payable to Evanston Community Tennis Association.

EARLY BIRD SPECIAL: Register on or before Sept. 1st for only $20.00 for event (membership required.)

  • All registrations will be made online. (Call a tournament director if this is a problem.) Each entrant must submit a completed official Entry Form online on the ECTA website. (Doubles partners must each submit a completed form with entry fee.)

Entry fees may be paid online through PayPal or by mailing a check to:

An entry form without the appropriate entry fee will not be accepted. A player may ENTER ONLY TWO EVENTS, one being singles, the other a doubles. The entry fee covers up to two events.
