2016 Spring Doubles Tournament

Unfortunately we only got in approximately a third of the matches before a rain out two weekends in a row. Look for sign-up for the 4th of July tournament in mid-May.

These are the teams registered for the Spring Doubles Tournament. We have 9 men’s teams and (likely) 6 mixed doubles teams.

As slated for the draw, we will have 3 Groups of 3 for men’s and 2 Groups of 3 for mixed. Top TWO teams from each bracket advance to single elimination in afternoon.

Men’s play begins at 9:00 AM Saturday.

Mixed play commences at 11:00 AM.

Final Draw sheets will be on site in morning. Please arrive 15 minutes early for check in and warm up.

Although the new Shack at Vandy Christie looks great, it is still undergoing construction, so we will not be allowed inside. (We will set up on the grass and have been informed that port-a-potties are to the south by the Varsity courts.)

Weather looks “OK” — chilly but dry — if ?????’s on latest, check our facebook page — BUT — basis is, we are all Rugged Tennis Players and looking for a nice day outdoors! 😉

2015 Spring Doubles Tournament

We had a nice turnout for the spring doubles tourney. In the men’s draw the Milligan brothers Earl and Derrick were a solid contingent and came through with a 10 – 2 victory in the final over John Broderick and Dennis Hoezle. In the mixed final, Deb Cassell and Joe Zabat prevailed over perennial favorites Gail Wilson and Randy Robbie 10 – 6.

The format is round-robin 8-game pro-sets in stage one. Teams are placed into brackets of 4. Teams play three matches for each group. The top 2 winners in each bracket advance to stage two which is single elimination 10-game pro-sets.

2015 Winter Doubles Tournament

Results from Tourney and NU open event this weekend —

We had a solid turn-out and very competitive tennis over the two days.

nicole-anthony-jackson-1-15The Mixed Dubs saw the brother/sister team of Nicole/Anthony Jackson prevail over the Phipps in the Finals — David (a winner in the 4th of July tourney and Evanston Sunday League Team Regular) and his Dad Arral, who was in town from California. Perhaps the Jacksons took some inspiration from their other sibling, an NU Womens’ team player from the late 90’s/early 00’s looking down from the pictures on the wall of the Combe Center.

arral-david-phipps-1-15Great play from the semis came from the teams of Ray Boyer/David Fenn (regular tourney stalwarts) and a new Chicago contingent of Mark Brodner/Cate Brodner.

The Women’s Dubs had the very competitive duo of Julie Colhoun/Ginny Lazarus run into another great team from Chicago comprised of Mary DaVanti/Amanda Ellsworth.

The first time tandem from the Windy City (in an ecta event) prevailed in a close 10 game pro-set.

Look for Spring Kick-off party in April (likely location at Prairie Moon again, plus the Spring outdoor tourney)
